Historic Downtown
The focal point of Denton is its historic downtown square and beautiful century-old County Courthouse. The courthouse was restored in 1986 and currently houses the county commissioners’ and county judges’ offices and a museum. Unique shops and restaurants adorn the vibrant downtown area and welcome locals and visitors alike. Many civic and cultural events as well as concerts and festivals are held on the streets and lawn surrounding the courthouse. Annual events include the Denton Arts and Jazz Fest, Cinco de Mayo, Denton Blues Fest, and Dog Days of Summer, to name a few. In 1999, Historic downtown Denton was the winner of the prestigious Great American Main Street City Award (www.cityofdenton.com).

Denton offers a plethora of cultural and entertainment opportunities to match any individual’s taste and interest. The Greater Denton Arts Council, Denton Community Theatre, Music Theatre of Denton, Denton Civic Ballet, Denton Light Opera Company, Bach Society, UNT College of Music, UNT Dance and Theatre Department, and TWU Dance and Theatre Arts Department top the list of many outstanding performance groups (www.denton-chamber.org ).
